Another theory is that the word “Tijuana” comes from the Spanish “el rancho de la tia Juana” or “aunt Juana’s ranch.” Going by this version, the famous aunt Juana was an old lady who actually owned a ranch in the area and was generous when it came to helping travelers and passersby. So much so, that her kindness and name became synonymous with the place.
